Stephen Gano Burbridge, also known as "Butcher" Burbridge or the "Butcher of Kentucky", was a controversial Union general during the American Civil WarMajor General Burbridge one battle was fought between Confederate Brigadier General Thomas Green (6000 troops) and Union Brigadier General Stephen G. Burbridge (1625 troops). The battle is sometimes referred to as the Battle of Grand Coteau or the Battle of Carrion Crow Bayou, which is present day Carencro Bayou (Carencro is the Cajun French word for buzzard). This is in southwestern Louisiana west of the town of Grand Coteau, in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. The marker is near the intersection of LA 754 and LA 182 just west of Sunset Louisiana.
